Check check check... ahem. Well its been a long time since being on this thing. I know most of you all have moved on and probably dont read this but for those who do... here's a life update.
Things are good. Hmm... last time I updated, I was just starting the new job of Freelancing/Consultant work. Well I finished that off in April, got paid super good, made cash. Project was finished and I took on another job in Orlando. Small little company in healthcare. Didn't stay there long and I took on the position of E-Commerce Manager for Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley-Davidson. We're the world's largest dealership, with 13 (just acquired Boston Harley) dealership through out the country. So its a good place and good position. In large and in charge, as they say. Meetings, planning, thinking of new things to do and better the company... all that managerial fun stuff. Hopefully I'll learn how to ride and save up some money to use towards my employee discount on a hog :)
Heather is doing good as well. She's the scheduling manager at a surgery center in Daytona. She gets to tell doctors when they can and cant work :) She's on a little hiatus from jewelry making for the summer, but has been doing a little sewing. She's got some ideas she wants to work on and I'm sure will get to soon. She did a couple of shows in the spring and sold a few more pieces. Heather and Noah are going on a cruise again, with her family in September. She's really looking forward and deserves the vacation :)
Noah turned 6 in the spring and graduated kindergarten in May. Had a cute ceremony at the school, with songs and performances. He spent the summer mostly with Heather's mom and was taking swimming lessons. He just started the first grade this week. Doing very well. We are currently in the process of getting him evaluated and hopefully placed into a Gifted Program. Not that the private school he goes to is bad... it would just be nice to get him into a program that can accelerate his education, is free, and close to our places of employment. The 5 year plan is to move out to Reno and have him attend the Davidson Academy... a very nice gifted school thats part of the University of Nevada. Its been getting a lot of good press... ABC Dateline (I think) and Time magazine just to name a few. They'll take him when he's in the "5th grade" or at that level. Today, Heather ran into his kindergarten teacher who had to fill out a survey, and she, on her own, said that when she was filling out the paperwork, every question/criteria pegged noah down to a T. Next he has to be evaluated by a Psych. and the teacher at the new school.
Well thats about it. I don't really know how much I'll be updating this, if at all. I've just been too busy and too not into the whole blog/journal/ thing lately. I havent opened my RSS reader in months. I'm on flickr still... do a little posting sometimes. I still post a little at http://www.idontblameyou.com and I have a facebook account (allen.armstrong-AT-gmail) tho I'm still not sure what the purpose of a facebook account is :) Oh... but I have started up a blog for Noah... its at http://www.noaharmstrong.com and the link to the blog is on there... along with other info and all.
Well... its been awhile since I actually posted (save from the posts that flickr sends whenever I post via mobile phone).
Well... big news is that I quit my job at DME and I'm now working under contract for the State of North Carolina. Designing a website for the North Carolina Oyster Hatchery Project. Best part... I am telecomuting. Its taking some time to get used to and to get into the mode of working at home. I'm taking a break right now from sketching out some logo designs for branding.
I'm also working a couple of freelance jigs too... a small design firm in Cincy that I've been working with for a couple of months (since the summer). Already have done http://meijapaneserestaurant.com/ for them awhile ago.
The other company is Beyond Indigo. They do grief/loss related sites... done a couple for them already.
So yeah... busy busy work... for awhile. Well actually, the workload and pace will probably be a bit slower than what I did a DME... there it was "in-n-out" quick timeline projects. The North Carolina job is going to be a nice slow and steady job, taking most of my day doing it. and the others will be as they come in.
Nice thing... get to pick up Noah from school, no after school programs for him. save some money there... and I'm getting paid very well at NC.
well... I shot my first wedding this weekend. I did get paid for it... basically she bought a bunch of equipment for me. flash, film and rental lenses. It went well. I was so very nervous leading up to it. I wasnt sure what the hell to do :) But it was fine. Actually I think it might be something that I can do. I need to update some of the equipments... buy 2 batteries and go to nicad for the flash. I’d bring my 35mm film camera adn a different medium format camera, and try to take more film shots than I did.
For the wedding, everyone looked great. Noah was the Star of the Show! he was SOOOO cute in his tux. everyone loved him when he came down the isle (he was the ring barer). Everyone gasped and I heard whispers of “oh how cute” through out the church.
But man do my legs hurt from running around, bending all over, getting shots. If I do a wedding again.. I’ll make sure its not so darn far away (clermont (about 1h45min drive)) and not so early in the morning. :)
He had his spleen removed. He is doing 100% better. Everytime we take him out for a walk, he pulls harder than the last time. He's eating everything in sight and has a definate pick up in his step.
He had a follow up on monday and all his lab work numbers are on the up and looking great.
